Osteopathy is an established recognised system of diagnosis and treatment that lays its main emphasis on the structural integrity of the body. It understands that structure governs function and all systems in the body are related. It is well placed to understand the complexities of the body and find the root cause of your pain as a change in one area can easily affect the functioning of another area. A history of a fractured big toe can alter gait and relate to your ‘recent’ pelvis dysfunction and low back pain back. Osteopaths diagnose and treat ‘somatic dysfunction’, which is impaired or altered function of related components of the somatic system: skeletal, arthrodial joints and myofascial structures, and their related blood supply, nerve supply and connective tissues as well as the internal organs assessing how these systems work as a holistic unit. Osteopathy is a safe and effective treatment for all ages our experience covers from the newborn to the elderly. We have treated clients from a wide variety of backgrounds including; parents, entrepreneurs, arts, city captains of industry, and those partaking in recreational activities, sport and events, personal trainers and teachers of yoga and Pilates and many more, all with their own PAIN story and musculoskeletal concerns, acute pain is resolved in a few sessions, chronic pain we recommend an integrated therapy approach.

What is an Osteopath?

An osteopath uses their clinical knowledge together with their highly skilled sense of touch, known as palpation to diagnose and treat. Osteopaths are primary healthcare practitioners with a statutory regulatory body, the General Osteopathic Council. All osteopaths practicing have undergone rigorous clinical training for 4 to 5 years. They study anatomy, physiology, pathology and clinical subjects to a very high standard, undertaking post graduate study in fields of interest to deepen their knowledge of osteopathy takes a lifetime to learn its full therapeutic potential. The human body is extremely complex and its ability to self heal is truly amazing, osteopaths facilitate this innate self-healing mechanism. Osteopaths commit to lifelong learning

Osteopathy in Pregnancy

In pregnancy your body goes through many adaptation and physical changes as your baby grows. Back pain in pregnancy is common but not ‘normal’, osteopathic treatment can treat pre-existing pain that has been exacerbated by pregnancy or effectively treat a new onset of pain in pregnancy. We treat a variety of symptoms, from back pain, neck pain, groin and pubic symphysis issues, ribs and back problems and more. We can help your body adapt to the changes of your growing baby by giving supportive treatment during this time, and after to help your body to recover. The physical strains placed upon mother and baby during pregnancy and childbirth make osteopathy the ideal treatment to help women enjoy a pain free and relaxed pregnancy. We use a variety of techniques to treat women and babies, which includes massage and cranial osteopathy.

Osteopathy for Children

Osteopathy is a safe and effective therapy for children and infants and can help ease young bodies through the normal stresses and strains of growing. We mainly use the gentle manipulative technique known as cranial osteopathy for infants and children. Other techniques such as massage; stretching and exercise may be used when treating older children to help them recover quickly from injuries. We can help support children for the following:

•    Stress and strains in growing
•    Teenage postural development
•    Sports and recreational injuries
•    General health and wellbeing

Osteopathy has become very well known for treating babies that develop issues relating to strain and stresses that has come about during the birth process. We have plenty of experience working with babies presenting with various problems related to musculoskeletal stresses and strains throughout the system including:
•    Colic
•    Feeding difficulties
•    Sleep issues
•    Postural moulding issues, torticollis
•    Much more

Structural osteopathy is the better know facet of osteopathic medicine. Quite often the term is wrongly used to define osteopathy itself. Structural osteopathy describes the diagnosis and treatment of dysfunctions in the musculoskeletal system, in the same way visceral osteopathy relates to the visceral system.

Cranial osteopathy is a relaxing soft touch therapy that it is an exceptionally gentle yet extremely powerful form of treatment. It is increasingly recognized for the depth of its influence, its comprehensive range of therapeutic effects, and its ability to resolve issues that are not helped by other treatments.
